Nick Jonas Releases 'Chains'

Yesterday, Nick Jonas took to his Instagram to give the world a sample of what he’s been working on musically since The Jonas Brothers/ Holy Trinity of Disney broke up last October. Is it a new sound for him? Yes. Do we like it? Not sure yet. Was it a good move releasing a song titled “Chains” the same day the trailer for the 50 Shades of Grey movie came out? Definitely.

On Our Radar: Catfish and the Bottlemen

British rock band Catfish and the Bottlemen formed in 2010 in Llandudno, North Wales, and consists of the lead vocalist Van McCann, lead guitarist Billy Bibbly, bass guitarist Benji Blakeway, and drummer Bob Hall. To get their name out in the world they took the traditional route of playing as many shows as they possibly could, resulting in over 100 shows within an 18 month period starting in 2012.
In 2013 they signed to Communion Records and released three singles; “Homesick”, “Rango”, and “Pacifier”. This year, they signed to Island Records and released their hit single “Kathleen”; all four songs can be found on their EP, appropriately titled “Kathleen and the Other Three”, which you can purchase on iTunes here.
This summer, on top of releasing their newest single “Fallout” and playing the Governor’s Ball in New York, Catfish and the Bottlemen will be performing at over 30 festivals in the UK/Europe. Sadly, no Canadian dates have been announced by the band but now that they’re on our radar, you better believe we’ll announce it as soon as they do.

Until then, you can enjoy the lyric video for their latest single “Fallout” featuring clips of Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber here.
Or if you’re more of an Ewan McGregor fan, their lyric video for “Kathleen” consists solely of clips of the beautiful man because, as they put in the description “EWAN McGREGOR IS THE BEST HUMAN ON THIS EARTH!” [I kid you not, it’s actually there if you look] You can watch that video here.
Also, feel free to check out the band’s official websiteinstagram, andsoundcloud.

Swedish Indie Folk Duo ‘First Aid Kit’ Take On Danforth Music Hall

After playing a recent show in Montreal, indie-folk sisters, Johanna and Klara Södberg, otherwise known as the Swedish duo First Aid Kit, are performing in Toronto tonight at the Danforth Music Hall.
After reaching internet fame for their cover of Fleet Foxes’ Tiger Mountain Peasant Song, the pair are set to release their third studio album on June 10th, titled Stay Gold. The new album promises to give listeners another dose of the bittersweet, haunting, American-folk infused melodies their fans have grown to love. Combining classic-folk refrains, haunting harmonies, and an unreal talent for raw and thought-provoking lyrics, First Aid Kit is not a name you’ll want to forget anytime soon.
While we could probably continue to use a million adjectives to tell you how absolutely lovely this band is, the point were trying to make is you should seriously check these two out if you haven’t already.
And if you happen to be a lucky soul attending their show in the Danforth tonight, let us know how it is so we can live jealously vicariously through you.
You can preorder First Aid Kits’ Stay Gold … here.
Or check out their music videos on YouTube… here
