So you may know indie-band Tame Impala from their one-off hit “It Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” but what you might not have heard is that the band is now being accused by Chilean news site RATA of plagiarizing the very song that brought so much attention to the otherwise relatively under-the-radar band.
The borrowed song in question is Argentinian singer Pablo Ruiz’s song from the 80’s “Oceano.”
Follow the link here to listen to the two song’s side by side and let us know what you think about the two songs strange similarity.
HAIM’s video for “My Song 5” featuring A$AP Ferg was released this morning and we spot, Kesha, Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig, and Vanessa Bayer making appearances. Check out the cameo-filled video above.

Not watching Taylor Swift’s live stream? Here’s what you missed:
-The new album? It’s called 1989 and its release date is October 27th -It will be her first documented pop album -Specifically “80’s inspired pop” -The first single is called “Shake It Off” - featured above -Album artwork? All polaroids (and when you get the album, you get one of thirteen packs of polaroids, so potentially different from somebody else buying the album) -Deluxe edition? Three bonus songs + three bonus tracks that are just -voice memos from Ms. Swift’s phone - Secret messages in the lyrics? Forever and always (see what we did there?)
What do you think of her new single? Are you excited for the new album? Let us know while we continue to update this post…
Seeing as how The Giver officially hit Canadian theatres August 11th, it seems only fair we take a moment to give some love to its soundtrack.
Now if you grew up in the North American school system, there is about a 90% chance you read Lois Lowry’s novel in school. Now personally, this book was a favourite growing up and its pretty much the most exciting thing to finally see it getting some screen love.
And we really do mean finally. Jeff Bridges (who also stars in the film) has been working to bring this novel to movie screens for 18 years. Now the film joins the ranks of other recent dystopian box-office smashes notably, Divergent and The Hunger Games films.
The movie’s soundtrack features 10 perfectly chosen songs, including tracks from Jake Bugg, NEEDTOBREATHE, and Capital Cities. Additionally, an original song by OneRepublic entitled Ordinary Human leads the soundtrack and can be checked out in the lyric video posted above (seriously just hit play, its great).
With a soundtrack as good as this one, and a book as great as The Giver backing it, there’s no doubt the film is going to be equally as amazing and I for one am beyond excited to finally get to go see it this week.
Side note: The film also stars songstress Taylor Swift, who’s mysterious live stream containing some sort of big announcement starts at 5:00 pm tomorrow (!!) on Yahoo and can be found here. Do we smell a new album? I seriously hope so.
Want a little throwback thursday action? Well we’re throwing it back to the original Degrassi: TNG cast, and no, we’re not looking at Aubrey Graham a.k.a Drake a.k.a Jimmy. We’re looking at Cassie Steele, a.k.a Manny Santos, because she’s also a musician now and she’s making it known; this week she released her EP Patterns and today she gets to take over the NYLON Instagram account. The reasons we’re excited are as follows: 1) Yay, Manny 2) Yay, Toronto talent & 3) Yay, good music.
Here’s how you can stalk Cassie, if that’s what you’re into:
Last night Ariana Grande released her audition tape for the new Star Wars filmmusic video for her hit ‘Break Free’ featuring Zedd. The video itself claims to be “two steps ahead of present day sexiness” and warns that you might “soil yourself from intergalactic excitement”. So watch Ariana fight some aliens, learn how to do a strip-tease in zero gravity, and come to understand the hashtag that is #rockettitties.
Living outside of Toronto and unable to make Tokyo Police Club’s September 7th show at Downsview Park?
Well, you’re in luck as the band has announced today that they have expanded their fall Canadian tour to include a series of new dates in the prairies and west coast.
These new dates will also feature some of our favourite (and probably yours too) Vancouver-based bands, Said The Whale and The Pack A.D.
Alongside announcing these new dates, the band has also released a remix of their song “Hot Tonight” by Togetherness (duo Ross Clark and Nicky Paul).
For a free download of the remix, get your wonderful selves over to the band’spre-sale for the new fall tour dates tomorrow and receive the track with your purchase.
Alternatively, you can check out the remix on TPC’s Soundcloud…here.
The best part of today, depending on your music taste, might just be Hilary Duff’s new single “All About You” (multiply that feeling by one thousand if you’re an OG Lizzie McGuire fan)
Troye Sivan finally released the much anticipated music video for his song “Happy Little Pill” and the world seems pretty happy about it.
If you don’t know who Troye is, click here. If you do know who Troye is, sit back, enjoy, try to not get too overwhelmed from the pride you’re feeling.
Tired of waiting around for some new material from Lorde? Well if you’re really craving something from Lorde that you haven’t already replayed over and over again on your iPod, we suggest looking to the past.
An album titled “Characters” by Lorde’s high school band And They Were Masked has been brought to the world’s attention and is available for streaming or download here.
Though Lorde’s vocals are really only featured on tracks “Sands of John” and “Piece Of Mind”, why not give the rest of it a listen?
In case you missed it, Taylor Swift has revealed that all of those mysterious little clues she has been releasing via social media were leading up to her worldwide livestream with Yahoo on August 18th at 5:00 pm ET. Taylor will be doing a Q&A live from a secret location, so better start working on making your questions stand out now because you’ll only be competing with, well, the global population of Swifties.
Who knows what else might be revealed during this Q&A? The last time Swift hosted a livestream she announced the release of her album Red, so could she be announcing the release of album number five?
There’s a very good chance we’ll be tuning into the livestream to find out all that Ms. Swift has to reveal… will you be joining us?

A mere 15 minutes ago, Ed Sheeran presented to the world the music video for his song “Don’t”. Keeping to the Ed Sheeran tradition of making himself scarce in his videos, the star of this music video is a break dancer who can do some slightly terrifying things with his body. He dances all the way from a run down neighbourhood into a swanky mansion, and then continues to dance into your heart (aww). So watch the video, dance along without hurting yourself, and then let us know what you think!
So, if any of y’all are like us here at Studio 416, then you probably went to One Direction, for one both of their Toronto dates of their Where We Are tour this weekend. And even if you didn’t get the chance to make it out to one of their shows, you’d be hard pressed to go anywhere in Toronto these past few days without getting hit by a little dose of One Direction-mania.
Liam thanks fans as Harry takes a water break/ makes a monkey face
Those who went out to show their support to their favourite Brits Louis, Liam, Harry, Zayn and Niall (the favourite Irishman), whether as first time concert-goers or seasoned One Direction experts, were met with a group of boys who obviously truly appreciate the dedication and support of their fans.
While fan appreciation was definitely a common theme during both of the Toronto nights (in fact Harry almost joined the audience himself at one point, as he leaned forward to read a fan-made sign and nearly tumbled right off the stage); other concert highlights included fireworks, stadium selfies, and a rendition of “Happy Birthday” that left one appreciative fan in a state of emotional turmoil that can best be described as the greatest or “worst” as Harry called it teasingly, birthday ever.
Harry takes a moment to gather himself after nearly falling off the platform
Overall, the boys put on a great few nights in Toronto and I think we speak here on behalf of all their fans when we say were ready for One Direction to come back very soon.
