2014 MMVAs: Singers, Winners and Not So Good Readers

What is it? 

The MMVAs (Much Music Video Awards) are a Canadian award show in Toronto that is really more part Toronto concert of the summer, part block party of your dreams - with a few award presentations thrown in. Since the first MMVAs in 1990, the shows have continued to grow and always make the effort to out-do the previous year.

Who’s hosting?

This year’s MMVA co-hosts are One— Kendall and Kylie Jenner. The show will take place almost a month after Kendall’s mix-up at the 2014 Billboard Awards, which should be plenty of time to take her from the self-proclaimed “worst reader” to… at least a decent reader. Let’s hope she remembers her “glasses”.

Who will be there?

So far Much Music has announced that Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Ed Sheeran, Hedley, Ariana Grande, Virginia to Vegas featuring Alyssa Reid, Sam Roberts Band, MAGIC!, and Kiesza are all set perform at the awards show, with Kellan Lutz, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jena Malone, Tyler Posey, Mia Martina, SonReal, Victoria Duffield, The Weeknd, Colton Haynes, and Marianas Trench pulling presenter duties. 

Reasons to Watch

There’s always something going down at the MMVAs that audiences are sure to remember… In 2003 it was that Avril Lavigne’s pants couldn’t support her mic and she showed us a bit more than she’d planned, in 2009 Lady Gaga debuted her Madonna-esque cone bra that was rigged with pyrotechnics, every year the arrivals to the MMVAs get a little more interesting (cc: Marianas Trench), and performers always find a way to throw the f-bomb into their performances (whether or not it works) because hey, it’s Toronto and that flies here.
